Why didn't I see this coming?
Pardon the spelling and grammar errors…..I have a brain injury. this blog going forward is in its raw form.
I am still hit with the question daily as I navigate this road called recoery. Here I am teaching women to look out for signs of burnout, do self checks take time for self care and the like but here I go and have a TIA in the prime of my life. I’m still pretty dumbfounded by it all.
I ask myself, self, why didn;t you see this coming? but you know what, I think i did. I started havig worsening headaches earlier this ear and had to have my migraines meds increased. I was seeing the neurolgist more often and I even had a new MRI that showed spots on my brain. So yeah, something was trying to give me signs but I kept going.
Yes, I was getting pedicures and drinking plenty of wine, but in hindsight that not really self care in itself. I didnt slow down, I kept pushing and pushing thru the headaches, through the pain, thru the stiff necks and tight back even though i woudl simply get an increas in my meds. So i guess i didn’t see it coming because i was too busy to even pay attention to my body. It was trying to tell me, slow down honey!
I hope you read this and decided to reflect and look at your last 4-6 months r maybe even the last year. What are you doing that you can change? Are there things you can dial back on or remove? I wish I had done this earlier. But no use crying over spilled milk. Hey this down time allowed me the time to reduce my Facebook friend list from 1300 to about 350 people. Ha! How you like me now?
